According to the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) Guidelines, this two-hour course covers the skills and knowledge required to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

HLTAID001- Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is the most comprehensive CPR course available. This unit applies to all workers required to provide CPR in various situations, including community and workplace settings.

Qualification & Certification

After completing HLTAID001 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), you will receive a Nationally Accredited Statement of Attainment on the same day. This unit of competency covers:

  • Respond to an emergency
  • Perform CPR procedures
  • Communicate details of the incident

Refresher & Reaccreditation

Your HLTAID001- Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certificate is valid for 12 months. It’s recommended you complete a refresher course on an annual basis in line with industry standards to keep knowledge and skills up to date.

Workplace Requirements

The CPR course provides appropriate training for staff that require CPR training as recommended by the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) Guidelines. The training comprises practical training plus face-to-face training.

Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

Course Content

In this CPR course, you will acquire competency in HLTAID001- Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). The knowledge and skills will enable participants to sustain life and minimise the consequences until professional help arrives.

You will learn:

  • The most up-to-date basic life support principles
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)-the technique of chest compressions combined with rescue breathing
  • The purpose of CPR is to temporarily maintain a circulation sufficient to preserve brain function until specialised treatment is available.
  • CPR techniques on adults and infants
  • Legal responsibilities of the first aider
  • Covering infection control and reporting
  • What to do when the heart stops

How to Assess an Emergency Situation

DRSABCD

  1. DANGERS Check for danger (hazards/risks/safety)
  2. RESPONSIVENESS Check for response (if unresponsive)
  3. SEND Send for help
  4. AIRWAY Open the airway
  5. BREATHING Check breathing (if not breathing / abnormal breathing)
  6. CPR Start CPR (give 30 chest compressions followed by two breaths)
  7. DEFIBRILLATION Attach an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) as soon as available and follow the prompts.
